Year 8 General English 2018
Year 8 English is all about learning the craft of the language in which we write and speak! As students, you will develop skills, knowledge and understanding in order to speak, listen, read, write, view and represent. In doing this, we will read short stories and novels, study advertising and poetry, watch film, write amazing essays, do speeches and presentations to the class. It’s all about enjoying and strengthening the way we communicate.
You will also:
· Understand the purpose of narratives (stories) and poetry, as well as generic conventions in a variety of text types.
· Develop critical comprehension skills and the ability to factor in purpose, audience, context, values, attitudes and themes when reading (and constructing) texts.
· Demonstrate the ability to write clearly structured paragraphs and essays which discuss and deconstruct a text.
· Build upon and further develop functional literacy skills. Students should be able to use Australian Standard English, in both oral and written form, for particular purposes.
